Changing fuses

The tenants are responsible for changing fuses. When the fuse blows, there is no power in the electric equipment of a certain area in the apartment - for example many lamps stop burning simultaneously. You can buy fuses in every crocery store. Check the amperage of the fuse (take the old fuse with you when you go to buy a new one if needed). Change the fuse as shown in the picture below. Always remember to switch off the main electricity before changing the fuse! If you don't know what to do, contact the maintenance men of JYY-Palvelut Ltd.

Blocking toilet seat from leaking

If the toilet seat starts to leak, close the handle behind the toilet seat (see picture) for the first aid. The water stops running and larger damage will be prevented. If you toilet seat is leaking, always contact the maintenance men of the JYY-Palvelut Ltd.!

Exhaust air valve

Clean the exhaust air valve regularly, so that the ventilation in the apartment works properly. The air flow is controlled automatically. Do not make any adjustments to the position of the valve yourself.

In the house Q the cooker hood functions as exhaust air valve. There are four adjustment levels in the cooker hood, of which level one should be sufficient in a daily use. After shower or if you wish to air the apartment you can use higher levels. Remember to clean the filters regularly! The filter can be cleaned with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Fire alarm and electric fire detector

It is the responsibility of the tenant to buy batteries to the fire alarm. A good way to ensure the function of the fire alarm is to change the battery every year at the same time. A normal battery works approximately one year. 

Make sure the fire alarm works after you have been away for a long time.

In addition to changing the batteries the operation of the fire alarm needs to be tested every month and always, when you have been away for some time. It is easy to check the alarm by pushing the test button. If you don't want to climb, use a broomstick. When the alarm gives a loud beep, it is working properly.

In buildings ABCDE there are electric fire detectors in the apartments and hallways. The detectors react to heat. The detectors are automatically connected to the fire brigade. A maintenance company takes care of the operating of the detectors. If you wish to clean the detector, do so only by vacuuming the detector gently from the surface. Moisture can also cause fire alarm, so don't wash the detector. Removing the detector also causes fire alarm. 

Changing lamps

Tenants are responsible for buying and changing the light bulbs. The maintenance men of the JYY-Palvelut Ltd. change the fluorescent lamps. If you need help changing the lamp, please contact the maintenance men.

Windows

If you feel draft from the window, first check that all the hooks of the windows are properly closed. You can borrow window keys from the Recreational Secretary during the office hours. Also make sure that the incoming air valves are closed.

Blockage in the sink

The reason for a blockage in the sink is usually a blocked drain trap. You can clean the drain trap easily by opening the trap and removing the dirt. If the water does not run properly in the sink even after you have cleaned the drain trap, contact the maintenance men of JYY-Palvelut Ltd. 

Incoming air valve

You can adjust the incoming air from the knobs in the ends of the incoming air valve. The valve is fully open when the knobs are pointing outwards and closed, when the knobs are pointing inwards. You can half-open the valve by adjusting just one end of the valve.

It is recommended to clean the filters at least twice a year. The valve and the filter can be removed by opening the screws with which the valve is attached to the window frame. The filter can be cleaned by washing it in warm water with some washing-up liquid. The valve channel can be vacuumed.

Miniature stove

In the houses ABCDE both the hot plates do not heat up, when the oven is on. Usually the hot plate in the back stays cold.
